Here is a good resource list of DVD, software, and books to help you learn to play piano on your own. They are all much cheaper than traditional piano lessons. http://www.thepianospace.com/learn-piano.html

Lessons from an experienced teacher really are invaluable, so as another option I suggest seeing if you can find a beginner teacher who is willing to exchange services for lessons. For example, you mow their lawn/babysit their kids/weed their garden in exchange for a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly lesson. Many teachers are willing to work with you on this kind of thing because they love what they do. It obviously works best with someone you already know though.

Hello, I am in the same situation. I have played keys for years but recently bought a piano and I am determined to learn to play properly and sight read music. I know theory but I want to learn to sight read. I recently purchased "Learn and Master Piano" on 14 DVD's, 6 CD's and several books. It has not come in yet though so I can not say how good (or not) it is. I highly recommend learning Fur Elise, Bach's Prelude in C and Chopin's Moonlight Sonata. They are relatively easy piecea but VERY beatiful. Hope that helps! Rob

You could go to a music store and they will sell you a beginners book.

Two classics that I highly recommend for starters are Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata. These two are very nice pieces and good introductions to the piano. I hope this helps! Good luck!
